Tramper All-Terrain Buggy is the only Scooter to win the Queen's Award for Innovation

For the first time ever a mobility buggy designed to take its drivers over all kinds of surfaces, including mud, snow, sand and even shallow water has won the Queen's Award.

Beamer Limited, based near Salisbury, have been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise, Innovation category for their British-designed and built Tramper all-terrain mobility buggy. Only 194 awards were given from about 1000 entrants.

The Managing Director of Beamer and designer of the Tramper said, "We're delighted to receive the Queen's Award, having produced the first five with no idea it would be so popular, and so useful to the less mobile. We get fantastic thank-you letters from people whose lives have been improved, which is most gratifying".

Over 850 Trampers have been hand-built for personal customers, The National Trust, Forestry Commission, nature reserves and country parks. Brixworth Country Park commented, "We have many regulars, and one man who comes twice a day to help walk his dog", and Beacon Fell Country Park said "One of our best projects, we have over 200 regular users".

Ten years ago Beamer were approached as a company experienced in designing specialised vehicles and transmissions, and asked to design a genuine all-terrain buggy. This led to orders from the founders of the Disabled Ramblers Association and a showing on BBC Countryfile.

As each Tramper is built to order customers can specify from a range of options, and there is even a version with Joystick control for those who are more severely mobility-impaired.

Note: Unfortunately it should be noted that as of 2013 the Joystick option is no longer available due to lack of demand.
